ISW
The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is a dynamic, collaborative, peer-based workshop that gives new teachers practical experience in developing effective learning activities. ISW also serves as a laboratory for experienced teachers who wish to refine or refresh their teaching practice.
ISW has a more than twenty-year history of success in British Columbia. For hundreds of participants, it has provided a positive journey towards success in teaching and learning practice. Include an ISW in your development plan this year! Workshops are free and open to all college employees.
The basic elements of an ISW include:
- A small group (4 to 6 participants)
- One or two facilitators
- Each participant facilitating three 10-minute mini-lessons
- Participants providing feedback on what helped and/or hindered learning
- Confidentiality
An ISW also normally includes:
- Identifying and discussing instructional & classroom issues
- Exploring learning & teaching styles
- Planning lessons
- Using AV media
Graduates of ISW are eligible for transfer credit to the Provincial Instructor Diploma (PIDP) program. ISW graduates may also proceed to become an ISW Facilitator by taking the Facilitator Development Workshop (FDW).
