Tools not Toys: Understanding and Effectively Teaching Today’s Students by Dr. Michael B. Eisenberg
Today, our students live and learn in an information and technology-rich world that is very different than past generations. Drawing on his research on information seeking and information use by students as well as his extensive teaching experience using online tools, Mike Eisenberg offers a conceptual snapshot of where we are and where we might be going along with practical recommendations for using Facebook and other tools for improved learning and teaching.

About Dr. Eisenberg
Dr. Michael B. Eisenberg is Dean Emeritus and Professor in the Information School at the University of Washington. Mike conducts research, writes, consults, and lectures frequently on information literacy, information technology, and information management in learning and teaching.
Mike focuses on the use of information and information technology by individuals and organizations to meet their information needs. He is widely known for his innovative approach to information problem-solving and technology in learning and teaching. Mike is in great demand as a speaker and delivering numerous keynote address and workshops.
Current funded research projects include Project Information Literacy (PIL)—a large scale study of college students’ information-seeking behaviors and competencies and Virtual Information Behavior Environments (VIBE), which seeks to better understand patterns of information problem solving and improve user experiences in virtual worlds.
Mike earned his Ph.D. in Information Transfer from the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University.
